MAPQT

Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality Teachers

Summer session dates are June 4-22, 2018

We will begin taking applications January 3rd, 2018.
MAPQT Application deadline is April 15, 2018.

What is MAPQT?

MAPQT is an alternative route to teacher licensure sponsored by the Mississippi Community College Foundation and approved by the Mississippi Department of Education. This program is designed as an alternative teacher training track for those who desire to become a classroom instructor. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, pass CORE (or 21 or higher on ACT) and Praxis Subject Assessment (formerly Praxis II) in specific subject areas.

What’s included in the training?

During the ninety clock-hour workshops, participants will receive training from national board-certified teachers in skills essential for being successful in the classroom. Participants will be required to complete a portfolio, which will be beneficial to them as they seek employment.

Workshop topics include:

  • Effective Teaching Strategies
  • State Curriculum Frameworks
  • Planning and Instruction
  • Classroom Management Skills
  • Use of Technology in Instruction
  • Emphasis on Special Education

Who is eligible?

Program applicants must meet the following requirements:

      1. Hold an undergraduate bachelor’s degree from a nationally/regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
      2. Have a minimum of a 2.75 GPA in *pre-major coursework.
      3. Have passing scores on CORE or at least a *21 on ACT.
        • Reading: Test Code: 5712 | Passing Score: 156
        • Writing: Test Code: 5722 | Passing Score: 162
        • Math: Test Code: 5732 | Passing Score: 150
      4. Have passing score on Praxis Subject Assessment (formerly Praxis II), Specialty Area Test that is accepted in area of endorsement.

* While a student must only have a 2.75 GPA in pre-major coursework to be considered for admission, this does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Due to new legislative requirements that went into effect September 30, 2015, the cohort group of students accepted at the time of a student’s admission must have at least a 3.00 GPA average as a whole.
