Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality Teachers Program (MAPQT)
is an alternative route to teacher licensure sponsored by the Mississippi Community College Foundation and approved by the Mississippi Department of Education. This program is designed as an alternative teacher training track for those who desire to become a classroom instructor. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree, pass Praxis I/CORE and Praxis II in specific subject areas. Praxis I taken after Dec. 31, 2013 will no longer be accepted.
What is MAPQT?
During the ninety clock-hour workshops, participants will receive training from nationally board-certified teachers in skills essential for being successful in the classroom. Participants will be required to complete a portfolio, which will be beneficial to them as they seek employment.

Successful completion of the summer program qualifies the participant for a three-year alternate path teaching license. In order to receive a five-year teaching license, the new teacher must successfully complete the following during the first teaching year:

*NOTE: Previous year participants who completed the three week summer session but DID NOT complete the Saturday sessions will owe $900.00 to complete this program.
In what subject areas can an alternate path license be obtained?
Specific subject areas have been approved for the MAPQT program. These new Praxis areas have recently been added. Health, Library Media, Economics, Latin, Physical Science and Chinese. Please click on the praxis link for a list of subject areas and test codes.

*When registering to take your Praxis II exam, your scores may be sent directly to our office by entering school code #1483.
*Your Praxis II scores will be emailed to you by ETS-Praxis in PDF format. We will accept the emailed scores as ORIGINALS if they are PRINTED IN COLOR . We recommend that you print several copies for your use, as the PDF file will only be viewable for 30 days.

Where is the training offered?
Currently, summer workshops are offered at seven community college campuses throughout the state.

MAPQT Program Costs
Tuition:$2,500 breakdown as follows…
Application Fee: $50.00 (will apply toward tuition fee if accepted and is non-refundable)
Summer Session: $1550.00 which includes training, manual, resource book, and materials.
Saturday session fees only apply to participants who secure a teaching position.
Saturday Session: $900/ can be paid in two installments
Any participant who leaves the program on or after June 09, 2014 will not be eligible for tuition reimbursement.
What is the registration procedure?
Those interested in the summer session should complete the application, attach the application fee, a copy of your driver's license CORE and Praxis II, and official sealed transcripts and mail to:
